I Am From

I am from Tyler Emerson

I am from learning new lessons

I am from friendships gone wrong

I am from relationships gone awry

I am from sadness, sadness of near death experiences

I am from broken bones and band-aids

I am from an honest loving family,

Where love holds us together

And understanding brings us closer

I am from nearly losing a sister

To having my own problems

I am from diabetes

A chronic disease that eats at my insides

I am from sunsets so gorgeous,

The ones that make your heart melt

I am from kisses so sweet and gentle,

Its as though butterflies have been dancing on my lips

I am from hugs so warm

They could thaw glaciers

I am from a father who loves me as a man, son, and a hard worker

I am from a mother who tends to my cuts, scrapes and boo boos

I am from a sister who never gave up, who stayed calm in times of pain

And who made it through what was expected impossible

We prayed and prayed and prayed

Just before they were about to call it quits and take her away

She held on for dear life and came back to us

I am from good memories

I am from family traditions,

Like going to grandpas for holidays

I am from Christmas,

My favorite holiday of the year

I am from doing well in school

And helping others whenever I can

I am from my father

With all my heart, I truly love him

I am from my mother,

With all my soul, I truly miss her

I am from trampolines and bike trips

With Laffy Taffy and Pixie sticks

I am from bright colors and artwork

A rainbow of vibrancy

I am from living paycheck to paycheck

And eating Top Ramen for years

I am from windstorms and sunny afternoons

I am from a warm climate, rather rainy though

I am from the backyard to the church

To my home in Spokane where I perch

I am from spontaneous evenings and nights out with my homies

I am from all kind of sports

Where I hang out with friends, so I’m never lonely

I am from big shoes and long socks

To playing the trumpet and singing;

Hell, I can even beat box

I am from sack lunches and high tops

To watching stars over yonder from my rooftop

I am from video games and social networking

To having fun and being quirky

I am from a group of heroes

My sister, mom and dad

I hold them close to my heart

With them I’m never sad

They mean so much to me

I am very truly blessed

That I have my loving family,

With them, there is no stress
